Dr Fiona McMichen

Dr Fiona McMichen, BDS, MSc (Endo), MS (Laser), LAHA Master (Laser) 

Dr. McMichen is an endodontic specialist based at The Tanshire Clinic in Elstead, Surrey. After a few years in general dental practice she completed her endodontic training at the Eastman Dental Institute and went on to teach there part time until 2018. She has been lucky enough to have had continued education with various international  experts who have influenced the way she works on so many levels.

International colleagues already using lasers inspired her to study further and in 2023 she completed a masters in laser dentistry at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome. She then went on to take the Master course at the Fotona Laser And Health Academy and is the only endodontist in the UK with this dual training.

Combining years of hands-on clinical practice with advanced, internationally recognised training in laser dentistry, Dr. McMichen brings a unique perspective to the many uses of lasers in endodontic practice and how she applies this on a daily basis In her clinic.

This session will give an overview of laser uses in dentistry highlighting a multitude of applications that can be incorporated into daily endodontic practice such as caries removal, increased analgesia, pulp capping, enhanced irrigation, opening of calcified systems, wound healing, pain management, surgical applications and many more. This will help expand and elevate the care you provide.

I am hosting this session to share my fascination and interest in laser dentistry that led to me undertaking a Masters in laser dentistry at the Università Catholica in Rome led by the internationally renowned Professor Giovanni Olivi. I subsequently took the Fotona Laser and Health Academy Master programme to further my knowledge on laser applications in dentistry.

Aims & Objectives

You will understand some basic laser physics. You will have a good idea of the many applications for lasers in dentistry and specifically endodontic practice.The short presentation will give an introduction to laser physics and how light of specific wavelengths can have various effects on tissues in the body. How this can be used in the field of dentistry and specifically endodontics.
