Research Grant - Process and Application
Amount
Decided annually, according to available funds. In 2024 awards will be granted to the value of up to £35,000 towards equipment and materials for an endodontic related research project being carried out in the UK by qualified dentists. The field of study must be endodontology. However £35,000 is the maximum awarded by the BES in the one year. It will be at the discretion of the Research Panel whether one large grant is awarded or one or more smaller ones.
Timing
There will be one opportunity each year to make a submission for a research grant. A copy of the application should be emailed to the Chief Operations Officer by 31st January each year, together with the completed application form which is available on the BES website. The applicant should submit a detailed protocol of the project, details of the equipment or materials required and a copy of their curriculum vitae. It should be accompanied by a supporting letter from the Head of Department / School if the work is to be conducted in a dental school. Retrospective claims will not be considered.
Judges
Applications will be considered by the BES research panel appointed by BES Council and successful candidates will be notified by the Chief Operations Officer of the society.
Payment
Payment of the grant will be phased according to study design and equipment needs. In all cases the final instalment of payment will be given only on completion of the study and a final report is submitted for assessment by BES research panel. It is expected that successful applicants will present their work in the form of a poster at the BES Spring Scientific Meeting.
Presentation of the award
The grants will be awarded to the successful applicants at the Spring Scientific Meeting in March. They will be reimbursed for any travelling and hotel accommodation expenses.
Publication
The Society will require a written report on the progress of the research project within one year of the granting of the award. Any publication arising from a study receiving a research grant must make acknowledgement of the award, and should be offered in the first instance to the International Endodontic Journal, which will apply its usual criteria for the acceptance of manuscripts.
