Is Pulp Conservation and Regeneration Relevant to Endodontics?

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The dental pulp is a unique vital tissue with an outstanding capacity to detect and defend from injurious insults. Conventional endodontic care has aimed to extirpate the pulp to promote healing. However, the advancements in pulp biology has greatly increased our knowledge of pulp conservation and regeneration. This has directly translated to clinical care with greater predictability of outcomes for procedures such as vital pulp therapy and regenerative endodontics therapy. This lecture will therefore discuss basic science, clinical translational approaches and future directions for pulp preservation in endodontics.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

To understand the functional capacity of pulp cells in healing of endodontic disease

Basic science research for current clinical therapeutics

Challenges to implementing pulp biology in endodontics
