Research / Clinical Use of Bioceramic Root Canal Sealers: Mind The Gap!
This presentation aims to discuss the clinical use of hydraulic calcium silicate-based sealers for obturation of the root canal space. Given the fact that these sealers grow in popularity over time, it seems essential to clarify why, when and how to use them. Hydraulic sealers have been extensively investigated in in vitro / ex vivo studies highlighting their eccellent biological and physicochemical properties. The specificities of calcium silicate-based sealers raise new questions connecting the research on these materials and their clinical use which has been reported to be strongly variable between practitioners and more based on their clinical habits than on the available knowledge. At the end of this presentation, the participants should be aware of the advantages/limitations of calcium silicate-based sealers, their most relevant indications and how their selection impacts the endodontic clinical procedure.
