Dr Shazia Kaka
Event speaker
Shazia graduated from King’s College London in 2007 and gained broad clinical experience across general practice, community, and hospital settings early in her career. She completed a Master’s degree in Special Care Dentistry in 2017 and was successful in gaining entry onto the Special Care Dentistry specialist list in 2018.
She currently works as a consultant in the department of Sedation and Special Care Dentistry at Guys Hospital, where she plays a leading role in the management of patients with complex additional needs, including those with severe dental anxiety and phobia. She utilises a wide range of pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies to facilitate safe and effective care.
Her subspecialist interests focus on the management of medically complex patients, particularly those with significant cardiac pathology and oncological conditions. She has contributed to the development of services supporting these patient groups, ensuring access to high-quality, tailored dental care.
Shazia has a particular interest in endodontics and enjoys the technical challenges it presents. Driven by a commitment to improving equity of care for adults with special care needs, she has undertaken further postgraduate training in endodontics, applying these advanced skills to support her special care cohort.
Alongside her clinical work, she is actively involved in postgraduate education, teaching clinicians on the Special Care Dentistry training pathway and the Diploma in Conscious Sedation at King’s College London. She has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and serves as an examiner within her specialty.
